What's Really Going On Here?

By now most of you have probably seen these pictures. What do you think is really happening here? Do you think this really happened or you do think the pictures were edited?

Here is a link on Google where you can find a lot of information and observations about the photos - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=lion+mule+dog+dead

I can't speak to whether or not the cat was killed by the mule--I've heard that the hunters had already shot it. You might notice that the rifle scabbard on the saddle is empty and if the rider was "thrown" by his mule as the story goes, he must have grabbed it out on his way down. Even so, I have seen our mules go after trespassing dogs and even a feral pig with teeth and forefeet just like this mule is doing, so I wouldn't put it past a mule to do it.

I heard from a pretty reliable source that knew some people, who knew some people that took these pictures. The story I heard was that the mule had packed out 100 lions across his saddle as a guide mule, but #101 was just too much and a rodeo took place. So the cat was already dead.
