Gaming for Donkeys

One of my favorite parts of showing my donkeys at Bishop Mule Days is the gaming classes.

Some donkeys may not be very fast, in fact I don't think any of them are as fast as the gaming horses, but they can still compete in these classes and have a great time. In fact, I think that the gaming classes (Polebending, Barrel Racing, Keyhole, etc) are some of the best classes to start in with donkeys who are just starting their riding career. They can go through the course pattern at whatever speed is best for them, and still be a success. It's not like Western Pleasure where they have to jog until told otherwise, and lope until told otherwise.

This year at Bishop Mule Days, both of my show donkeys, Andy and Lily, competed in the gaming classes. Here are a couple photos from those events.

Next time you get a chance, you ought to try some of these classes with your donkeys. They are a lot of fun, even for beginners!
